Description and Uses:

fulgida var. deamii is a clump-forming, upright herbaceous perennial up to 100cm. It has dark green, roughly hairy leaves (that distinguish it from ‘Goldsturm’) and black-eyed bright yellow daisies to 7cm in width from late summer to mid autumn.

Long-flowering and attractive to insects. RHS plant for pollinators.

Seed heads are an attractive feature through the autumn. Useful cut flower. Popular in prairie style planting.

Cultivation Requirements:

Grow in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. In cold areas, protect with a dry winter mulch.

Cut down in late autumn or winter.

Planting:

Best planted in the spring to avoid winter wet.

Problems:

Generally free from pests and diseases, although slugs may attack new growth. Can rot off in the winter on wet, heavy soils.

Propagation:

Propagate by seed sown in pots in a cold frame in early spring.

Propagate by division in early spring.
